Food is a central concept

cz /

The link between food and art has existed since time immemorial. It swings on an irregular axis between still lifes for opulent banquets, the romantic idea that the artist must suffer hunger in order to be authentic (an idea that persists to this day), different records of vomiting after decadent soirees, social criticism, economic criticism, geopolitical criticism, and countless other combinations.

Artists at Schools 2014

Winners of the Open Call / hu /

The Artists at Schools program, which was launched in 2012 as a pilot project, has shown that, as a result of the changes affecting the Hungarian education system, there is a great need for programs that interpret the concept, and develop the practice, of democracy, as well as allow free space for creativity. In this way, continued the project in 2013 and 2014 and announced an open call

A Parallel Modernity. Soviet Architecture 1956-1991

exhibition, Centro Cultural São Paulo / at /

All started in the thaw period of the Khrushchev years after Stalin’s death in 1953. The new ideological call for modernization of the country led to an enormous extension of urban space. This continued into the final years of the USSR as economical crisis and dwindling material resources took their toll. The master architecture of Socialist Realism was rejected. A new urbanization was driven by an ideology of scientific and technological progress.

Buldozer privindu-se în oglindă (Bulldozer watching itself in the mirror)

A project by Cezar Lăzărescu / ro /

8, 9, 10 August 2014
The esplanade of the Iaşi Palace of Culture
Inauguration: Friday, 8 August 2014, 19.00h

In 1997, the Iaşi artist Cezar Lăzărescu imagined a project for the public space around the Câlnic castle, part of an exhibition organised by the Bucharest SOROS Centre for Contemporary Art . His proposal at the time – Buldozer privindu-se în oglindă (Bulldozer watching itself in the mirror) –, however, did not materialise until now, in 2014, when tranzit. ro/ Iași committed to putting it into practice as part of the project Mecanica unui proiect de artă în spațiul public din Iași (The mechanics of a contemporary art project in the public space in Iaşi).

Propaganda walks

A workshop with and for Andreas Fogarasi and Christian Mayer / ro /

Together with: Luminița Apostu, Dan Acostioaei, Florin Bobu, Delia Bulgaru, Bogdan Chelariu, Cezar Lăzărescu, Sorana Lupu, Cristina Moraru, Cristian Nae, Andrei Pripasu, Alex Tănăuceanu and Ionuț Toma.

tranzit. ro/ Iași has organised for two days a marathon event, with a semi-public character, with no photographic documentation. Projection and memory were the main instruments used in order to design and later to reconstitute the 12 tours made in pairs, 1:1. The twelve "guides" (artists, curators, theorists, one architect and one translator from Iași) offered one tour each to one or the other of the two invited artists, the latter being accompanied, as a result on six personal propaganda walks.

Originally designed as a propaganda service that tranzit. ro/ Iaşi could offer its guests, this institutional practice takes one step further and becomes externalised, thus creating infinite possibilities of imagining an urban space, both for the hosts and the guests.

The propaganda walks were designed for the first time as an institutional practice by Livia Pancu, on the occasion of the ENPAP - European Network for Public Art Producers meeting organised by the Vector Association in Iaşi in 2011.
